Two of a Kind

According to Meghan McCarthy's Twitter page, it is said that a future episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic will be about disabilities.  Now I like the sound of that, seeing as there's not enough discussion of importance on this in cartoons for kids, which would be good for them to know about and understand.  However, last I checked, while it was Lauren Faust's original intention to have Scootaloo be a disabled Pegasus unable to fly for life, Scootaloo is simply flightless, which has no excuses to back it up (Pound Cake, anyone?).  As for Ditzy Doo, her speaking role and a-wall eyes stirred up a controversy (thanks a lot, horrible soccer moms) that resulted in her being reduced to having a "Where's Waldo" role in the series.  Now both of these ponies are the only "disabled" characters we know of, so this episode Meghan McCarthy first mentioned as an answer to another fan question (won't they just cease already?) could be about Scootaloo... or Derpy.

Or it could be about neither of them...

  1. I don't think Derpy is going to have anything to do with it. She best fits as a background gag character and should probably stay there.

It'll either be about Scootaloo, or a one-off character who will never be seen again after the episode outside of cameos. To play it safe, it will probably be the latter option. Even though Scootaloo is one of my favorite characters, an episode with this topic (which would also likely build off Sleepless in Ponyville) could have a lot of potential because:

    - Even more RD/Scoot bonding
    - Maybe FINALLY we could see her family, or lack of one
    - Most likely horribly cruel DT/SS mocking far beyond what they ever did before, both at having no cutie mark and not being able to fly
    - Scoot and RD begging Twilight to do something to "fix it", only to be told it's not possible
    - Scoot deciding to not give in to self-pity and hopelessness, and realizing that she *is* good at something after all. Thus, she might be the first of the Crusaders to get her cutie mark

Of course, there'd have to be a lot of explanations about how Scootaloo can't simply just be healed or changed with magic (Twilight, and possibly even Discord), but if it's done right it could end up being one of the best episodes of the series.

Then again, it could be about some filly or colt that just moved to Ponyville and has some kind of problem. We really don't know anything yet.

    1. Season 4 ain't coming till at least next winter and even then, yes, we are a long ways off from finding out anything... lest this is all a big April Fool's gag. But I doubt it.
